Turn your craft room from chaotic to harmonious! It’s a new year, what better time to get your creative space in order.

Let’s dive into the art of decluttering, uncovering storage solutions, and adding a sprinkle of crafty goodness to create a workspace that inspires.

Let the craft room makeover begin!

Step 1: Declutter

You have heard the saying “Out with the old, In with the new” and this is no different when it comes to your creative space.

As creatives, we tend to hoard all the things, because you know, “One day I will use that!” I am here to tell you, Get Rid of It! First, look around at everything you can see openly and if you have had it for more than one year, it is time to let it go. You can trash it, donate it, sell it, whatever you choose, but stop letting it take up valuable space.

What things should you declutter?

  • Craft Surfaces
  • Paper / Vinyl
  • Embellishments
  • Ribbon
  • Dried Markers / Paint Pens
  • Old Paint
  • Anything Broken (You’re not going to fix it!)

These items may differ depending on what you keep in your creative space.

Step 2: Storage

Now that you have decluttered all the unnecessary stuff, let’s get all the things organized and easy to find.

One thing I have learned when creating a project, whether it’s for enjoyment or for a customer, when I am able to find what I need easily the process tends to go much smoother than when I am panicking because I can’t find the pair of scissors that I just had in my hand.

Storage Solutions Recommendations:

  • Clear Containers with Lids
  • Bins
  • Shelving
  • Cube Shelves
  • Peg Board
  • Glass Containers

There are so many storage options and being able to have your supplies organized and easy accessible your creative space will be one you never want to leave.

Here are a few items I recommend:

Step 3: Label

Now, let’s take your storage solutions to the next level!

We are creatives right? Grab your markers, your Cricut and vinyl, or those cute decorative labels you found at Hobby Lobby! Unless you put those in your declutter pile, then I give you permission to grab this one item out.

Why Label Your Stuff?

If you have all clear containers, you can skip this step, unless you just prefer things to be labled, but if your containers are closed and you can’t easily see inside, labeling is a great way to grab what you need without having to surface through all the things.

There are many options when it comes to labeling; you can make then when your cutting machine, you can write directly on the storage containers, you can purchase pre-made blank labels, the possibilities are endless.

Step 4: Workstation

Let’s tackle that workspace!

If you are anything like me, your workstation probabaly has paint, glue, glitter, and clutter from your latest creative endeavor from one end to the other. Keeping your workstation clean and organized can spark just as much joy as your creative space does.

Start by putting all the things laying out in their new storage home, throw away scraps or paper bits, organize anything you plan to keep on your workstation, and dont forget to disinfect that table top.

Step 5: Maintenance

You have decluttered, you have established a storage system with labels, and your workstation is ready for your next amazing project.

Lastly, let’s discuss maintaing this new organized space.

How to maintain your creative space:

  • Regular Decluttering Sessions:
    • Schedule periodic decluttering sessions to assess and reevaluate your craft supplies.
    • Donate or repurpose items you no longer need or find joy in.
    • Keep a designated area for ongoing projects and return unused items to their designated spots promptly.
  • Implement Smart Storage Solutions:
    • Invest in storage solutions that align with your workflow and the types of materials you use.
    • Regularly review your storage system and make adjustments as your creative needs evolve.
  • Create Daily and Weekly Maintenance Routines:
    • Develop a quick daily cleanup routine to put away tools and materials used during the day.
    • Set aside time each week for a more thorough organization session, addressing any accumulated clutter.
    • Make it a habit to return items to their designated places immediately after use to prevent buildup.

I hope this helps you get your creative workspace more enjoyable, more manageable, and more inspired to continue creating.
